Row of enclosed cabin berths with sliding panels along a quiet floor

The Prime Pod Kyoto

Kyoto, Japan

The Prime Pod is a small chain and this is its Kyoto house, in Nakagyo ward near the middle of the city. The berths are of the cabin kind: taller and wider than a moulded capsule, closed with a panel and fitted with a bed, a headboard, a light and sockets. They are set in two tiers along quiet floors kept for sleeping only.

The shared floors hold washing rooms, showers and lockers, with baggage kept away from the sleeping levels. A common room with seating and a counter serves for eating and sitting through the day, and a terrace on an upper level is open to guests. Floors are separated by gender, as the house states in its own material.

Nakagyo is the flat central ward, laid out on the old grid between the two rivers. The covered market street, the arcades and the older shopping lanes are within a short walk, and the subway and the buses through the centre reach the station in a few minutes.
