River Rock Casino Resort stands on the bank of the middle arm of the Fraser river in Richmond, on the flat delta ground south of Vancouver. The complex was built for the purpose and opened in 2004, low and long against the water, with hotel buildings set behind the main block. A marina lies on the river side, and the ground around it is open and level.
The public parts hold a theatre used for concerts, several dining rooms, bars, a spa and rooms held for events, together with the hotel floors. The theatre is the largest of these and takes touring programmes through the year. The building is served by structured parking, and covered ways lead from it towards the transit station.
The riverside walk runs past the site along the arm of the Fraser, with the airport on the far bank and the older fishing village at Steveston further south. The transit line to central Vancouver stops beside the complex, which puts the city about twenty minutes away.
